Paul M. Berger, MD, soon after his arrival to the Lehigh Valley region in 2005, distinguished himself for his specialized experience in the treatment of complex urologic and neurologic diseases causing urinary incontinence and pelvic pain. He is a member of the Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network medical executive committee, serves as a member of the operating room governing board, and is a fellow in the network's Institute of Physician Leadership. His other current positions include the directorship of the Lehigh Valley Incontinence Center, Gallil Medical instructor of cryosurgical procedures and Pennsylvania medical director for Mid-Atlantic Cryotherapy, and an assistant clinical professor of surgery at Penn State Milton S. College of Medicine and Medical Center, Hershey, PA. In addition to enjoying practicing general urology, Dr. Berger's special interests include the surgical management for urethral stricture disease, incontinence and neurourology (including Interstim), cryosurgical therapy for prostate and renal cancers, management of pelvic pain, and hormonal deficiencies in men.
Dr. Berger graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in biochemistry from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, and then proceeded to earn his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He continued his preliminary post-graduate training in general surgery and completed residency training in urology at Penn State University Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, PA. He received his American Board of Urology board certification in 2002.
Dr. Berger's professional memberships include the American Medical Association, American Urological Association, American College of Physician Executives, and Lehigh County and Pennsylvania Medical Societies. He is fluent in the Spanish and German languages, and remains active in the community by supporting prostate cancer screenings at the Allentown Health Bureau and the general urology clinic at Lehigh Valley Hospital. Dr. Berger has been volunteering his surgical and medical skills to international medical missions in underserved regions of the world where medical and humanitarian crisis exist.
