Additional surgical applications for the da Vinci Robotic System that have been successfully and routinely performed by Drs. Trapasso and Maggioncalda include:

Robotic Pyeloplasty

A laparoscopic surgical procedure to repair a blockage of the ureter, called ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction, that occur near the kidney. Four small incisions are made on the same side of the abdomen as the blockage, the robotic instruments are inserted and then the procedure is then performed by excising the obstructed area and constructing a new connection of the healthy segments.

Robotic Ureteral Reimplantation

A laparoscopic surgical procedure to repair a blockage of, or fistula (leak age of urine) from the lower ureter. Four small incisions are made in the mid abdomen, the robotic instruments are inserted and then the procedure is then performed by excising the defect and constructing a new connection of the healthy ureter to the bladder.

Robotic Partial Cystectomy

A bladder-sparing laparoscopic surgical procedure to excise a diseased, typically cancerous area of the bladder, and then reconstitute/reconstruct the bladder wall with the robotic instruments by way of the small incisions.

Robotic Radical Nephrectomy

Laparoscopic total removal of the kidney and associated surrounding structures. May be required if partial nephrectomy is not feasible.

Robotic Inguinal Hernia Repair with Mesh

Occasionally, one or more inguinal hernia are discovered at the time of other planned laparoscopic robotic pelvic surgery, most often during a radical prostatectomy. The presence of the hernia can impede the surgery or the patient's subsequent recovery, so at the discretion of the surgeon a hernia repair can be performed. With the assistance of the robotic intruments, an internal mesh patch is anchored to the pelvic support structures to close the hernia defect.

Robotic Adrenalectomy

Laparoscopic removal of the adrenal gland and associated surrounding structures. Typically performed in conjunction with a radical nephrectomy, but on occasion may need to be removed as an isolated structure.
