Joseph G. Trapasso, MD, FACS is devoted to the specialty of urologic cancer surgery, with the preponderance of his time dedicated to the diagnosis and management of cancers of the prostate, kidney, bladder, and testicle, utilizing the daVinci laparoscopic robotic surgical technology. He served, for over a decade, as the first director of urologic oncology at Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network, and founded and directed the multispecialty regional referral service for complex urologic cancer cases within the Lehigh Valley Hospital Multidisciplinary Cancer Second Opinion Service during that same period of time. As an associate professor of surgery at Penn State Milton S. Hershey College of Medicine and Medical Center, Hershey, PA., Dr. Trapasso remains the director of their rotational residency at Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network. His interests and accomplishments encompass robotic, minimally invasive and laparoscopic urologic surgery, including the daVinci robotic prostatectomy, robotic partial and radical nephrectomy, robotic partial cystectomy, and robotic urologic reconstructive surgery of the kidney, bladder and ureters.

Dr. Trapasso graduated with distinction from Manhattan College in Bronx, NY, with a bachelor of science degree in biology. He then earned his medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn, NY. Thereafter, he completed his internship and residency in surgery and urology at the SUNY Health Science Medical Center in NY, during which he trained under the direction of several leaders in the field of urologic oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NY, NY. Dr. Trapasso was then awarded a one year clinical fellowship in urologic oncologic surgery at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA, where he participated in urologic cancer research while obtaining additional expertise in the surgical treatments of urologic cancers. He received his board certification in 1996, and remains the Lehigh Valley region's most experienced board certified fellowship trained urologic oncologic surgeon.

Dr. Trapasso is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Urological Association, the Lehigh County and Pennsylvania Medical Societies, the Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons, and the Society of Urologic Oncology of which membership in represents a distinction held by fewer than 5% of the urologic surgeons in the United States.
