Senior Heather McDonough '02 participated in a summer REU hosted by SUNY in Postam. Heather, along with three students from other East Coast colleges, spent eight weeks exploring Carry Groups with SUNY math professor Dr. Blair Madore. Together they worked on a theory Dr. Madore had explored in his thesis paper, necessitating a short review and working understanding of group theory. Heather continued her work in the field as an independent study with Dr. Rykken the following fall. Heather presented her groups results at the fall MAA EPADEL meetings held at Lehigh University at the end of October 2001 and at the Nebraska Conference for Undergraduate Women in Mathematics in Spring 2002. She is currently attending graduate school in mathematics at the Unversity of Maryland.
