2001

Under the sponsorship of a Muhlenberg College Summer Research Grant, Math/CS student Bill Stevenson '02 created a web-based brain dissection laboratory. By leveraging standard internet multimedia technologies such as Java, XML, and Flash, Bill made available a comprehensive and state-of-the-art tutorial to anyone with internet access. The project served as a capstone to Bill's self-designed cognitive science major in which he explored not only the functional neuroanatomical structure of an organism (in this case a sheep), but also the pedagogical and technical issues involved with the presentation of what he learned such that it is geared towards classroom usage. Aside from displaying high-resolution images of the dissection in progress, Bill created interactive quizzes and links to other information available on the Internet.
