On March 29th, Muhlenberg College officially started the Pennsylvania Chi chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, a national honorary mathematics society. The society was founded in 1914 at Syracuse University and was incorporated on May 25, 1914 under the laws of the State of New York. Its roots date back to a mathematics club which was founded at Syracuse in 1903. Pi Mu Epsilon is a non-secret organization whose purpose is the promotion of scholarly activity in mathematics among students in academic institutions. To celebrate, the mathematics department held an inaugural banquet at the Hoffman house. Douglas Faires, Youngstown State University, presided over the installation. Dr. Faires, a past president of the society, was the liaison for Muhlenberg's chapter.
